The Baylor women's tennis team and the Texas men's tennis team top a total of 14 Big 12 teams ranked in the Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll. The Bears earned their highest-ever ranking to begin a season, checking in at No. 3, while Texas was tabbed No. 5.
The Conference has seven men's teams ranked overall, including five in the top 25, which is tied for second-most of any conference, while seven women's squads are ranked in the overall list of 75.
The 2011 BU women will enter the season with a 56-match win streak over Big 12 opponents, which features 42 in a row during the regular season. Baylor also won its sixth consecutive Big 12 regular season title and fifth consecutive Big 12 Championship title in 2010, finishing the season with a 30-3 record, their second 30-win season in program history.
The Longhorn men's team advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 in 2010, posting a 27-3 final record. UT was undefeated in conference play and captured its second Big 12 Championship.
Individually, the Big 12 has 15 student-athletes ranked in the singles Top 125 for men and six for women, while 11 men's pairs are ranked in the doubles Top 60 and three in the women's. Texas A&M duo Jeff Dadamo and Austin Krajicek top the doubles list with a No. 1 ranking entering the 2011 season.
ITA weekly team rating will begin on January 25. Singles and doubles rankings are published every other week starting Feb. 17.
The Big 12 tennis season begins on Friday, January 14.
