Eight Big 12 football players have been named to the 75th annual Maxwell Award watch list.
Candidates include wide receivers Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State), Ryan Broyles (Oklahoma) and Jeff Fuller (Texas A&M), along with quarterbacks Robert Griffin (Baylor), Landry Jones (Oklahoma), Ryan Tannehill (Texas A&M), Brandon Weeden (Oklahoma State), and running back Cyrus Gray (Texas A&M).
Since 1937, the Maxwell Award has been presented to America's outstanding collegiate football player and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell. Watch list candidates are chosen on past performance and future potential by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee.
Blackmon, Broyles, and Griffin are returning Maxwell Award semifinalists from 2010. Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced October 31. The remaining three finalists will be revealed November 21, with the winners announced on December 8. The formal presentation of the award will be held March 2, 2012, at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala.
