Missouri closed out its football history in the Big 12 Conference with a dominant victory over North Carolina in the Independence Bowl. The Tigers (8-5) spotted the Tar Heels a 7-0 lead but responded by scoring 31 consecutive points ? a first-half record for the bowl. Sophomore quarterback James Franklin threw for a touchdown and ran for two others. He finished with 142 yards rushing and 132 yards passing to earn most valuable player honors. North Carolina (7-6) came in with the nation's 16th-best rush defense but Missouri dominated on the ground, gaining 337 yards. North Carolina running back Giovani Bernard gained 1,222 yards rushing, a school record for a freshman, but was limited to 31 by the Missouri defense.

Texas used a dominant defense and an efficient offense to defeat California in the Holiday Bowl. Freshman David Ash started at quarterback for the Longhorns (8-5) and he threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Goodwin to put UT ahead to stay. Ash, who completed 14 of 23 passes for 142 yards, also caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Jaxon Shipley. Texas finished with 255 yards in total offense but limited the Golden Bears (7-6) to just 195 yards; their seven yards rushing were the team's lowest since 2000. The Longhorns forced five turnovers and sacked Cal quarterback Zach Maynard six times. |

Baylor won 10 games for the second time school history in a record-setting Alamo Bowl. The Bears scored 43 points in the second half and overcame an 18-point deficit early in the third quarter to overcome Washington, 67-56. Baylor (10-3) had three players rush for 100 yards. Senior Terrance Ganaway, the game's outstanding defensive player, gained 200 yards and scored five touchdowns. Jarred Salubi had 101 yards on five carries and scored two TDs while receiver Tevin Reese gained 101 yards on 2 attempts. Ganaway scored two touchdowns after the Huskies (7-6) took their final lead, 56-53, with 9:40 remaining. The second was a 43-yard bolt with 2:28 remaining after Baylor had stopped a Washington drive. Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III completed 24-of-33 passes for 295 yards and one touchdown.

Rutgers used a blitzing defense and a solid running game to hold off Iowa State, 27-13, in the Pinstripe Bowl.
The Cyclones (6-7) took a 6-0 lead with field goals on their first two possessions. But in the second quarter, starting quarterback Jared Barnett was sacked and fumbled, setting up a Rutgers touchdown that gave the Big East Conference team the lead for good. Steele Jantz, who was Iowa State's starting quarterback to start the season, relieved Barnett. The Cyclones pulled to within 20-13 with 10 minutes remaining but Rutgers' Chas Dodd hit Brandon Coleman for an 86-yard touchdown pass with 5:47 remaining to secure the victory. The Scarlet Knights (9-4) won their fifth bowl game in six attempts under coach Greg Schiano. |

Oklahoma overcame a slow offensive start and rode a stingy defense to a 31-14 victory over Iowa (7-6) in the Insight Bowl. The Big 12 Conference is now 4-1 in bowl games. Quarterback Blake Bell had three rushing touchdowns - his first was set up by an interception - and Landry Jones ended a three-game streak without a touchdown when he connected with senior tight end Trent Ratterree for a 3-yard TD pass that gave the Sooners (10-3) a 21-0 lead midway through the third quarter. The Hawkeyes, behind quarterback James Vandenberg, closed to within 21-14 with 6:56 remaining. Freshman Michael Hunnicutt's 35-yard field goal and Bell's final TD inside the last three minutes assured the Sooners' victory.

Texas A&M ended a disappointing season on a positive note. The Aggies (7-6) built a 30-7 lead in the second half and turned back a Northwestern (6-7) rally to win their first bowl game since 2001. Ryan Tannehill threw for 329 yards and a touchdown while Ben Malena had two rushing touchdowns. Malena was filling in for senior Cyrus Gray, who missed the game with a shoulder injury. After the Wildcats scored two touchdowns and added a two-point conversion to pull within 30-22 with less than six minutes remaining. The Aggies, though, took time off the clock and drove for a 31-yard field goal by Randy Bullock. Bullock set a single-season scoring record which was set in 1927.

Quinn Sharp's 22-yard field goal in overtime gave Oklahoma State (12-1) its first lead of the game and a 41-38 victory over Stanford (11-2) in the Fiesta Bowl. Sharp's field goal was set up by Brandon Weeden's 24-yard pass to Colton Chelf, a former walk on. Weeden, in his final game, threw for 399 yards and three touchdowns ? all to Justin Blackmon, who finished with eight catches for 186 yards. The Cardinal's Andrew Luck (27-of-31, 347 yards, two touchdowns) drove his team into position for a game-winning field goal at the end of regulation but freshman Jordan Williamson's 35-yard field goal was wide left as time expired.

Kansas State couldn't overcome the mistakes that led to a slow start. The Wildcats (10-3) erased all but three points of a 19-point second quarter deficit but Arkansas held on for a 29-16 victory Friday night in the Cotton Bowl. The Razorbacks (11-2) extended the Southeastern Conference's winning streak to four games in the Cotton Bowl against Big 12 teams. Arkansas' Joe Adams had a 51-yard punt return for a touchdown ? his fourth of the season ? and junior quarterback Tyler Wilson threw for two touchdowns. Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein ran for a touchdown and passed for a touchdown but the Wildcats could muster just 260 yards in total offense.
