Jones, Pledger, Bond Earn Men's Basketball Awards

Sophomore forward Perry Jones III (Baylor) and junior guard Steven Pledger (Oklahoma) along with freshman forward Jaylen Bond (Texas) have been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Players and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of Dec. 12-18 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference. It is the first career weekly honor for Pledger and Bond, while Jones earns his first player award after being named top rookie three times a year ago.

Jones averaged a team-best 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.5 assists to lead Baylor to a home win over Bethune-Cookman (69-42), followed by a huge road victory at BYU (86-83). The sophomore forward posted his best game against the Cougars with a career-high 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including two field goals from 3-point range. Sixteen of his points came in the second half on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. Jones shot 65.2 percent in two outings last week and leads the team with a .667 shooting mark this season. He is averaging a Baylor-best 18.8 points in 29.5 minutes per contest.

Steven Pledger, Oklahoma, Jr., G, 6-4, 222, Chesapeake, Va./Atlantic Shores Christian School
Pledger scored 31 points in the Sooners' 79-74 win over Houston in Oklahoma's only game of the week. The junior guard posted the second-highest point total of his career on 10-of-13 (.769) shooting, including 4-of-5 (.800) from 3-point territory. He grabbed 10 rebounds to notch his first career double-double, while the point total was his most in a regulation contest. He made all seven free throws from the line with two steals and just one turnover in 37 minutes. During OU's four-game winning streak, Pledger is shooting 70.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from 3-point range while averaging 21.3 points and 4.3 rebounds.

Jaylen Bond, Texas, Fr., F, 6-7, 224, Philadelphia, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh
Bond averaged a double-double as the Longhorns recorded victories over Nicholls State (93-40) and Temple (77-65). The freshman forward had 18 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes versus Nicholls State. He followed that performance with 12 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes against the Owls. He converted 15-of-19 (.789) field goals last week, while 12 of his 20 boards came on the offensive glass. Bond is averaging 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds this season, while shooting 65.8 percent (25-of-38) from the field.
