Stripling Garners Pair of National Weekly Awards

For the second week in a row, a Big 12 pitcher has been tabbed the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week as Ross Stripling (Texas A&M) garners the honor this week after his no-hitter performance last Saturday. Additionally, the senior was named a Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week.

Stripling threw the 11th no-hitter in Texas A&M baseball history. The Southlake, Texas-native baffled San Diego State hitters all afternoon during the 1-0 win, allowing only a fifth-inning walk while striking out seven during his 106-pitch outing.

It was the first no-hitter for a Texas A&M pitcher since Zach Jackson's seven-inning no-hitter against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 14, 2004, and the first nine-inning no-hitter for an Aggie since Matt Blank accomplished the rarity against Texas-Pan American on Feb. 6, 1996.

It also marked the first no-no in the Big 12 since 2009 (Brandon Workman, Texas, vs. Penn State).

Additionally, the victory was the 30th for Stripling's career which moved him into a tie for fourth place on the all-time wins list at Texas A&M with former Aggie pitching great Ryan Rupe (1994-98). For the season, Stripling is tied for the Big 12 lead in wins as he maintains a 9-2 record on the mound with a 2.36 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 103.0 innings.

This season he has moved onto the Big 12 top 10 career lists for wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. He also has eight career complete games, including four this season.

Andrew Heaney (Oklahoma State) earned the honor last week, while Max Muncy (Baylor) claimed Hitter of the Week on March 27. The Big 12 is one of four conferences with three or more NCBWA honorees this season.
