The University of Oklahoma women's
gymnastics team is continuing its magical season. The Sooners are back to No. 1
in the country after scoring victories in two separate meets. OU was ranked No.
1 two weeks ago and has now reclaimed the top ranking.
This week marks the fourth week in
program history the squad has been ranked No. 1 after also doing so two
different weeks during the 2010 season.
The only undefeated team and the team
with the most wins in the country at 19-0 this year, OU has scored above a 197
in nine-straight meets dating back to Jan. 18. The Sooners' nine meets over 197
is tied for the most in a regular season in NCAA history with Friday's contest
at No. 4 Alabama left with a chance to break the record.
OU also jumped higher in each of the team event standings, including a No. 1
national ranking on bars to go with the teams' eight-week streak ranked as the
top beam team in the country. The Sooners currently have a 49.465 ranking on
bars, just ahead of Florida's 49.450, and a 49.395 beam score, with Alabama
second at 49.260.
The Sooners' meet at Alabama ends their
regular season. They'll compete in the Big 12 Championships on March 23 in
Ames, Iowa. The NCAA Regional will be in Norman on April 6 with the NCAA
Championship in Los Angeles on April 19.
