Number Switch Doesn't Slow Texas Tech's Nurse

Texas Tech wore new Lone Star pride uniforms provided by Under Armor. But when the uniforms got packed for the trip to Kansas City, the No. 4 jersey Ty Nurse wears didn't make the trip.

So for the Red Raiders' first-round game against West Virginia in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Championship Wednesday night, Nurse wore No. 55. That's not a popular number with most players and on equipment staffs it's known as the "blood jersey" - the jersey a player switches to if his original jersey gets bloodied.

Nurse, a senior, wasn't fazed by wearing a different number. In the first five minutes of the game, he made three 3-pointers. Coming into the game, his season high for a game was two 3-pointers. Nurse finished 3-of-4 from 3-point range as the ninth-seeded Raiders slipped past No. 8 seed West Virginia, 71-69.
