Texas Tech wore new Lone Star pride uniforms provided by Under Armor. But when
the uniforms got packed for the trip to Kansas City, the No. 4 jersey Ty Nurse wears didn't make the trip.
So for the Red Raiders' first-round game
against West Virginia in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Championship Wednesday
night, Nurse wore No. 55. That's not a popular number with most players and on
equipment staffs it's known as the "blood jersey" - the jersey a player
switches to if his original jersey gets bloodied.
Nurse, a senior, wasn't fazed by wearing
a different number. In the first five minutes of the game, he made three
3-pointers. Coming into the game, his season high for a game was two
3-pointers. Nurse finished 3-of-4 from 3-point range as the ninth-seeded
Raiders slipped past No. 8 seed West Virginia, 71-69.
