Texas Tech teammates Janine Beckie (Offense) and Lauren Watson (Defense) along with TCU midfielder Emma Heckendorn have been named winners of the latest Big 12 soccer weekly awards, it was announced. It is the fifth career weekly honor for Beckie (four offensive, one newcomer) and first accolade for both Watson and Heckendorn.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Beckie scored a pair of goals last weekend - both game-winners - as Texas Tech improved to 7-0 with wins at No. 10 California and against Abilene Christian. The junior forward connected on the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the Bears, heading in a corner kick with 32 seconds remaining in double overtime. She added her second goal just 24 seconds into the second half in a 2-0 win over ACU. Beckie now has 13 game-winners in her career, the most in school history. Her 30 goals overall is tied for second on the TTU career chart.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Watson recorded a pair of shutouts last week and is tied for the conference lead with four this season.  The sophomore notched four saves versus California, shutting down a Golden Bears attack that had outscored its opponents, 19-3, this year. Dating back to 2013, Cal had not been shut out in its previous 10 matches. Watson leads the Big 12 in goals against average and shutouts, ranking 14th nationally in GAA in the latest NCAA rankings.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK

Heckendorn started and played 70 minutes in TCU’s 1-0 win over previously undefeated Texas State on Friday. The freshman midfielder then collected her first career game-winning goal in the Horned Frogs’ 3-1 win over Sam Houston State. She played 60 minutes in the contest and also scored a second time, registering her first career multi-goal effort. Heckendorn has two multi-point matches in her last three outings.
