Akela Jones (K-State) was named the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week, while Sam Watts (TCU) and Ryan Crouser (Texas) shared the honor on the men’s side. It is the sixth weekly honor of Crouser’s career, while Watts and Jones earned the honors for the first time.

Akela Jones, Kansas State, Jr., St. Michael, Barbados
Akela Jones took first place in the pentathlon at the Jayhawk Classic with a dominating score of 4,402. That mark ranks No. 2 in Division I and No. 5 in the world this year, and is the second-highest score in school history in a multi-event. Jones won took first in four events, coming out on top in the 60-meter hurdles (8.21), high jump (1.82m/5-11.50), shot put (12.78m/41-11.25), long jump (6.38m/20-11.25). The junior also took fourth in the 800 meters in a personal best time of 2:34.75.

Sam Watts, TCU, Jr., London, England
In his first 200-meter dash of the season, Sam Watts blazed to a time of 20.69, the world’s fastest mark recorded this season in the event. The junior from London, England, also competed in the 60 meters, posting a time of 6.84 at the New Mexico Team Invitational.
Ryan Crouser, Texas, Jr., Boring, Ore.
Defending NCAA champion Ryan Crouser came into Saturday’s shot put competition at the UW Invitational ranked No. 2 in the NCAA this season, he left No. 1 in the world. Crouser posted a mark of 20.95 meters (68-9.00) to win and move atop the world performance list this season. He set a meet record and came about six inches short of breaking the Dempsey Indoor facility record.
