This marks the fourth season the Big 12 has had three or more teams advance to Super Regional play since the format was adopted in 1999 and second time in the past three years (2014, ‘05, 1999). In 2014, three of the Big 12’s four Super Regional squads advanced to Omaha. The Big 12 has produced 37 Super Regional teams including multiple teams in 14 seasons. The league is 9-1 this postseason with the .900 win percentage in regional action the best in conference history.
This marks the second Super Regional appearance in TTU history, following its 2014 Super Regional that preceded a berth to the College World Series.
The Cowboys defeated No. 7 national seed Clemson on its home field two nights in a row, going undefeated in the Clemson Regional for its fourth Super Regional appearance in program history.
The Frogs also used a 3-0 regional showing at advance to face No. 4 national seed Texas A&M in the College Station Super Regional next weekend. The two teams also met in the Super Regionals in 2015 with the Frogs winning the series in Fort Worth to advance to their second straight College World Series. TCU is making its sixth Super Regional showing.
