Texas Athlete of the Year Nominees

Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 23. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices on July 23-25 on Big12Sports. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today’s featured candidates are Texas’ Chrisann Gordon and Will Licon.  

UT Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Chrisann Gordon; Track & Field

^ Claimed the individual national title in the 400 meters (50.51 seconds) at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships
^ In the semifinals of the 400 meters at the national outdoor meet, she posted the fastest semifinal time in NCAA history (50.39 seconds).
^ Posted a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championship meet
^ Claimed 2017 Big 12 Conference title at the league indoor championship in the 400 meters
^ 8-time All-American (seven first-team honors, one second-team award) in her two-year UT career

^ 11-time NCAA champion who won NCAA titles in all 5 of his events at the 2017 NCAA Championships
^ Became just the fourth swimmer ever in the history of college swimming, and the first in 17 years, to win NCAA titles in four different individual events through his career at the NCAA Championships
^ The first Texas or Big 12 swimmer ever to win three individual national titles at a single NCAA Championship meet
^ NCAA, American, U.S. Open and Big 12 record holder, 200-yard breaststroke NCAA, U.S. Open and Big 12 record holder, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay
^ Led Texas to NCAA team titles in his final three years of eligibility (2015-17)
