Junior Dedric Lawson (Kansas) and sophomore Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech) have been named to the John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy's Midseason Top 25 list, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced.
Lawson leads the Big 12 in rebounding at 11.1 per game and double-doubles with 10, which is tied for third nationally. He is third in the conference in scoring at 18.6 points per contest. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week (11/12, 11/26, 12/26) and two-time league newcomer of the week (12/3, 12/17), Lawson is the only player in the conference averaging a double-double. The forward has scored 20 or more points in eight of his last 12 games and 30+ points on two occasions.
Culver has started his sophomore season with averages of 19.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists. The Lubbock native has scored in double figures in 14 of 15 games, led the Red Raiders in scoring in 13 and is shooting 56.4 percent from the field. Culver ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring, field goals made (101), total points (285) and is third in field-goal percentage and free throws made (64).
