K-State senior Barry Brown, Jr. and Texas Tech graduate transfers Matt Mooney and Tariq Owens have been named as three of the 15 midseason candidates for the 2019 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Bona, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

West Virginia’s Jevon Carter was the inaugural winner of the newly-created award in 2018.

With seven conferences represented, the Big 12’s three players rank second. Texas Tech is the only team to have two players included on the list. Players not on the Midseason Watch List are still eligible to be selected as award semifinalists, which will be announced in February.
