Josh Jung Garners Bobby Bragan Slugger Award
June 12, 2019

For the second time since the awards inception in 2017, a Big 12 student-athlete was honored as the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award recipient as Josh Jung of Texas Tech was named the recipient.

Both Big 12 representatives to have won the award, Jung (2019) and Hunter Hargrove (2017), both hailed from Texas Tech.

Jung, Co-Big 12 Player of the Year, owns 14 home runs, a batting average of .342 and a slugging percentage of .636 this season. The No. 8 overall 2019 MLB draft pick has helped spearhead the Red Raiders ball club to its second consecutive College World Series appearance, the fourth in program history.

The junior leads the league in runs scored with 62 and is tied for second with his 22 doubles.

The award takes into account performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity and will be open to nominations from Division I baseball programs in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana.

Jung and the Red Raiders will play their first game of the 2019 NCAA Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, Saturday afternoon against Michigan at 1 p.m. CT.
