How Texas got here
The Longhorns finished in a three-way tie in the Big 12 South but lost the tiebreaker with Oklahoma for a spot in the Big 12 championship game. That kept Texas out of the BCS national championship game. The Longhorns will be attempting to prove their worth on a national stage.
How Ohio State got here
The Buckeyes' two losses came to the teams that squared off in the Rose Bowl - USC and Penn State. Ohio State, which has suffered lopsided losses in the last two BCS national championship games, were an at-large selection by the Fiesta Bowl.

Texas coach Mack Brown on the Big 12 tiebreaker/BCS arguments: "It's time for us to put behind us all the BCS stuff and move forward and look forward to a great game. The BCS doesn't satisfy everybody. We've been on the positive side of it a few times. We've been on the negative side a few times." ... Brown was named Bobby Dodd National Coach Of The Year Wednesday. ... While he could change his mind before the Jan. 15 deadline, Texas junior linebacker Sergio Kindle told the Austin American-Statesman that he planned to return for his senior season. ... Texas is making its second appearance in the Fiesta Bowl. The Longhorns lost to Penn State, 38-15, in the Fiesta after the 1996 season. ... Ohio State is playing in the Fiesta Bowl for the fourth time since 2003. ... Ohio State is making its seventh appearance in a BCS game. The Buckeyes are tied with USC and Oklahoma for the most number of appearances in the 11-year history of the BCS. ... Freshman Terrelle Pryor, who took over as the starter after Ohio State lost to top-ranked USC, is 8-1 as a starter. He completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 1,158 yards and threw 12 TDs and four interceptions. Pryor also rushed 99 times for 424 yards and five TDs. ... Senior quarterback Todd Boeckman, who started last season and the first three games this season, is expected to play against the Longhorns. He and Pryor might be on the field at the same time for some gadget plays. ... Ohio State is sixth nationally in fewest passing yards allowed per game (164.3). Texas is 11th nationally in passing yardage, averaging 299.5 yards per game.
