Wendell Barnhouse is a nationally-known and respected columnist who has spent over 20 years covering collegiate athletics. He has reported from 24 Final Fours and more than three dozen bowl games and has written about the Big 12 and its schools since the conference's beginning. Being cynical about Big Time College Sports takes little effort. But particularly during the holiday season, the positive effects that can be derived from Big Time College Sports should also be recognized. The opportunity to be a student-athlete can be life altering.

Here's a great story by Austin Meek of the Topeka Capital-Journal writing about Kansas redshirt freshman forward Jamari Traylor, who should also be commended for opening up and telling his story of surviving a tough upbringing on the South Side of Chicago.
