This is the first career honor for White, who becomes the second Sooner named Player of the Week this season. Zastryzny and Whaley are also first time recipients. Zastryzny is the first Tiger hurler to win the award since 2010, while Whaley's Newcomer nod is the second for the Cowboys this season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Max White, Oklahoma, Jr., OF/INF, 6-1, 203, Durant, Okla./Durant
White has multi-hit performances in each of his last seven contests and hit .444 in four games last week (8-for-18) with nine RBI off two doubles and his second homer of the year. In last week's four games, the junior slugged .722 with 13 total bases while scoring four runs. The week ended as OU recorded a two-game sweep at Kansas (finale rained out) with a career-high five RBI from White, including a three-run homer to clinch the series in the fifth inning. He singled in two runs during OU's five-run ninth inning. All five of White's RBI in the series finale came with two outs on the board and 23 of his team-leading 43 RBI have come in that situation. White also had two hits in the previous three games during the week against Kansas, Dallas Baptist and Oklahoma State.
In the last seven games, White is hitting 16-for-30 (.533) with two homers, three doubles, eight runs, 13 RBI, and an .833 slugging percentage. On the season, White ranks third in the Big 12 with 43 RBI (ties career high) and fourth in both hits (60) and batting average (.361). He also ranks second in the league in multi-hit games (20) and multi-RBI games (14).
PITCHER OF THE WEEK Michael Howard, Baylor, Fr., OF Nathan Orf, Baylor, Jr., C/OF; Trey Whaley, Oklahoma State, Jr., OF
Rob Zastryzny, Missouri, So., LHP, 6-3, 196, Corpus Christi, Texas/Calallen
Zastryzny threw his first complete game shutout against Texas Tech on Friday night as he went a career-best 9.0 innings, allowing just seven hits and two walks while striking out five in the start. The complete game shutout was the first by a Tiger since current teammate Blake Holovach completed the feat against High Point earlier this season. It was the first complete game shutout in Big 12 play by a Tiger since Kyle Gibson's 2009 contest versus Kansas State. The sophomore lowered his ERA from 4.11 to 3.58 in the start, which is now the top ERA among Tiger starters this season. Zastryzny is one of five Big 12 pitchers to toss a shutout this season and is one of only two who have done so in Big 12 play.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Trey Whaley, Oklahoma State, Jr., OF, 6-0, 208, Lubbock, Texas/Midland JC
Whaley's hot hitting helped Oklahoma State go 4-0 last week, which included a win over No. 23 Oklahoma and a series sweep at Kansas State. Whaley started all four games in the outfield and hit .529 (9-for-17) with six doubles, five runs and four RBI. He tallied 15 total bases, recorded an .882 slugging percentage and added a stolen base. The junior transfer hit safely in all four games and collected multi-hit efforts in three of those, including a pair of three-hit performances. In the K-State series, he was 7-for-13 (.538) with three RBI, four doubles, four runs and 11 total bases. His slugging percentage in the series was .846. With his offensive tear, Whaley raised his season batting average to a team-leading .328.
