Texas' Fields Tabbed Golfweek's Coach of the Year

Texas men's golf head coach John Fields has been named Coach of the Year, announced Golfweek.

In his 15th year at the helm of the Longhorn program, Fields was the architect of the UT squad that captured seven tournament titles this season, in addition to the program's third NCAA Championship after UT edged Alabama, 3-2. It was Texas' first national crown since 1972.

UT held the No. 1 national ranking all but two weeks during the 2011-12 season and boasted two of the three top players in the country in Jordan Spieth (No. 2) and Dylan Frittelli (No. 3).

Fields is the first Big 12 men's golf coach to be recognized by Golfweek.

In addition to Fields' accolade, seven league student-athletes earned All-America status from Golfweek.

Texas duo of Dylan Frittelli and Jordan Spieth were honored as first team honorees, while teammate Julio Vegas picked up a second team recogntion.

Joakim Mikkelsen (Baylor), Nate McCoy (Iowa State), Taylor Gooch (Oklahoma State) and Cameron Peck (Texas A&M) tallied honorable mention distinctions.
