Six men's teams and nine women's squads were named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason regional rankings on Monday.
On the men's side, Texas was picked first in the South Central Region along with Baylor (13th) who also cracked the region's top 15. In the Midwest Region, Oklahoma State took the top stop with Oklahoma ranked second. Also featured in the Midwest is Iowa State and Kansas, tabbed fifth and seventh respectively.
Texas and Oklahoma State each finished last season ranked first in their respective regions.
The women's side was well represented as nine teams were honored in this year's preseason rankings. Texas is ranked second in the South Central Region, and Baylor checked in fourth. Texas Tech was picked sixth in the Mountain Region. In the Midwest Region, Iowa State and Oklahoma State are first and second, respectively. Kansas and Kansas State are also featured in the Midwest top-15. West Virginia is ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The Iowa State and Oklahoma State women finished the 2011 campaign ranked first and second, respectively, in the Midwest Region.
The 2012 cross country season kicks off this weekend.
