Paige Strahan (Texas Tech), Adrianna Franch (Oklahoma State) and Renae Cuellar (Oklahoma) have earned Big 12 Soccer Weekly accolades for games played from Sept. 28-30. This is the first recognition for Franch this season and third of her career, and the first honor for both Strahan and Cuellar. Cuellar becomes the first experienced (non-freshman) student-athlete to win Newcomer of the Week since Oct. 12, 2010.
Offensive Player of the Week
Paige Strahan, Texas Tech, So., MF, Odessa, Texas
Strahan became the first Red Raider to score in five straight games since 2009 this weekend as she netted a goal in each of Texas Tech's two wins over Oklahoma and Iowa State. The sophomore scored the game-winner last Sunday in the 55th minute of the Red Raiders 2-1 victory over the Cylcones. Strahan also scored Texas Tech's opening goal of a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma. The strike came in the eighth minute of play, marking Tech's second quickest strike of the season. With the two wins, Strahan has helped the Red Raiders to their best start (10-3) through 13 games in program history and has become the second-leading scorer on the squad with seven goals on the season to go along with one assist. She is also second in total points with 15.
Defensive Player of the Week
Adrianna Franch, Oklahoma State, Sr., GK, Salina, Kan.
Franch helped No. 17 Oklahoma State to a win and a tie at home last weekend, recording 14 saves and a shutout. On Friday, Franch recorded her fifth shutout of the season and added to her school-record career total with her 37th in a 1-0 win over Iowa State. She notched four saves against the Cyclones. Franch's 37 career shutouts are tied for seventh on the NCAA's all-time list. In Sunday's match against Bedlam-rival Oklahoma, Franch set a career high with 10 saves, including saving a penalty kick in the first overtime, in a 1-1 tie. Franch ranks second in the Big 12 this season in saves (51) and shutouts (5).
Newcomer of the Week
Renae Cuellar, Oklahoma, Sr., F, La Puente, Calif.
Cuellar broke an OU single game record with 13 shots at No. 17 Oklahoma State. The previous record was 11. The transfer from Arizona notched the lone Sooner goal at OSU to secure the tie.
