After WNIT Title, Oklahoma State Seeks More Success

Story line
Few teams had more emotion in a season than Oklahoma State. Coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna died in a Nov. 17 plane crash while on a recruiting trip. Jim Littell took over as coach and the Cowgirls persevered and went on a run of six consecutive home victories to win the Women's NIT. Oklahoma State returns all five starters and Littell believes that his team has strengthened its roster six through 10.

Coach Littell says
"It was a learning process for me as well. I think I gained some valuable experience in the journey through last year. I know a lot more what to expect about the coaches. But I've been in the league for seven years prior to that. So I feel very comfortable coaching at this level and look forward to it and really enjoyed playing in the Big 12 each night because it's a challenge every night."

Oklahoma State won six consecutive games to win the WNIT, defeating Central Arkansas, Wichita State, Missouri State, Colorado, San Diego, and James Madison. ... Big 12 Freshman of the Year Liz Donohoe was also named to the WNIT All-Tournament team. She averaged 13.1 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. She was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week five times. ... Oklahoma State will begin the season with a Top 25 ranking courtesy of both the Associated Press and the USA Today Sports/ESPN preseason polls. The Cowgirls were last ranked heading into the season prior to the 2008-09 campaign when they were ranked 14th by the AP and No. 15 by the coaches. ... The Cowgirls also were selected as 15th in the Lindy's Sports College Basketball poll.
