Julien Brun (TCU) and Chonlada Chayanun (Iowa State) have been named March’s Big 12 Golfers of the Month. It is Brun’s first weekly honor and first Conference golf award for the Horned Frogs. Chayanun is the first Cyclone to take home the honor since 2011.
Julien Brun, TCU, So., Antibes, France
Brun led TCU to three runner-up tournament finishes in the month of March, in addition to a dual-match victory over Pepperdine. His performance has helped the Frogs rise to the No. 7 spot in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin national team rankings after entering the spring at No. 43. The sophomore has climbed into the high positions in each of the major individual ranking systems: No. 2 in the Golfstat Cup, No. No. 5 in Golfweek/Sagarin, No. 3 in R&A World Amateur and No. 7 in Scratch Players. His current season stroke average would break the school record that he set as a freshman in 2011-12.
Brun placed among the top-15 finishers in each of TCU’s three tournaments and posted his third victory of the season, and school-record sixth of his career, at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
Chonlada Chayanun, Iowa State, So., Nakhonratchaslma, Thailand
Chayanun tied for second at the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational with a score of 223 (76-71-76) for her best collegiate finish. It marks Chayanun’s first top-10 finish of the season and the second of her career. The 54-hole score is the lowest of the season and is three strokes shy of her career best.
