Beckie, Esson and Coffer Claim Weekly Soccer Honors

Janine Beckie (Texas Tech), Victoria Esson (Texas Tech) and Shannon Coffer (TCU) have earned weekly soccer honors for games played from Oct. 25 - 28.  Beckie notches the fourth weekly honor of her career, Esson’s total now stands at six and Coffer picks up her second award.

Offensive Player of the Week

Beckie turned in an impressive weekend scoring in back-to-back games as the Red Raiders picked up shutout victories over both Kansas and No. 9 West Virginia. Beckie scored the Red Raiders’ game-winner against Kansas Friday night before scoring again to put Tech up 2-0 in the second half against the Mountaineers. It marks the fifth time in Beckie’s career that she has scored in back-to-back matches while she pushed her season scoring total to a team-leading eight goals. Friday’s score marked her fourth game-winner of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Victoria Esson, Texas Tech, GK, Sr., Christchurch, New Zealand
Esson posted back-to-back shutouts this weekend en route to victories over both Kansas and No. 9 West Virginia.  With the performances, she extended her shutout streak to three-straight matches while pushing her season total to a Big 12 leading 12 shutouts on the year. Esson now has a school record 26 shutouts in her decorated career as the anchor of Texas Tech’s defense which ranks No. 1 nationally in both goals-against average and shutout percentage. Over the weekend, she made a combined eight saves.

Newcomer of the Week
Shannon Coffer, TCU, GK, Fr., Spring, Texas
Coffer made nine saves in her first Big 12 start against Iowa State. The nine saves were a career-high for the freshman. Five of the saves came after TCU had taken the 1-0 lead. Iowa State took a total of 22 shots, 10 of which were on goal. On the season, Coffer boasts a 3-0-1 record and lowered her goals against average to 0.84. She has stopped 27 of 31 shots faced this season.
