Reinis Kregers, Kansas State, So., Vecumnieki, Latvia
Kregers started the second day at the Sam Adams Decathlon in seventh-place and proceeded to finish the multi-event in a close second. The sophomore put in a spectacular performance that saw him set personal bests in four of the final six events.

For Kregers, his score of 7,304 was less than 50 points behind Patrick J. Smith’s winning score of 7,351 points. He set career bests in not only the javelin and 1500 meter, but also the 400 meter and 110 meter hurdles. His javelin throw, in particular, vaulted him to No. 5 all-time in the K-State decathlon top-10.

Marielle Hall, Texas, Sr., Haddonfield, N.J.
Hall smashed the school record and posted one of the best 5,000-meter marks in collegiate history Friday night at the Stanford Invitational, clocking a time of 15 minutes, 19.26 seconds to outdistance the Section A field of 26 which included 14 professional athletes.

In addition to eclipsing the UT record of 15:46.00 set by Annie Schweitzer in 1987 by nearly 30 seconds, Hall also posted the 10th-best time in collegiate history. Over the last five years only three women have clocked a better time during a collegiate meet. One of them, Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth, is the two-time defending NCAA 5,000m champion. Another, Betsy Saina (formerly of Iowa State), was the 2012 NCAA indoor 5,000m champion and won the 10,000 at last year’s outdoor nationals.
