With a share of the Big 12 baseball regular season title and the top seed in next week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship, the Big 12 Conference has announced that Oklahoma State will open the postseason event in the 4 p.m. CT time slot on Wednesday, May 21. The Cowboys will face the eighth-seeded team in game three on day one at Oklahoma City’s Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The other half of the Oklahoma State bracket will feature seeds 4 and 5, which will face off at 7:30 p.m.
In addition to OSU’s seed being determined last night, TCU and Kansas have also clinched seeds 2 and 3, respectively.
Should the Horned Frogs finish their regular season tied with OSU in the conference standings, the Cowboys own the seeding tiebreaker after a 2-1 series win during the regular season in Stillwater. If TCU finishes with an identical 15-9 conference record with Kansas, it owns the tiebreaker against the Jayhawks based on a 2-1 series win in Lawrence.
TCU will face the seventh-seeded team in the 12:30 p.m. game on Wednesday with Kansas and the sixth-seeded squad playing in the 9 a.m. slot.
This marks the highest seed for all three teams in the event. OSU has been seeded second on four occasions (2013, ‘08, ‘06, 1997), while Kansas has never been seeded higher than fifth (2009). TCU was the seventh seed in its first year at the event a season ago.
Seeds 4-8 will be determined over the course of the next three days as Big 12 teams conclude the final weekend of the regular season.
