Iowa State Athlete of the Year Nominees

Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 19. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices from July 19-21. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today's featured candidates are Iowa State's Christina Hillman and Melvin Ejim.

Christina Hillman
Track & Field
Sophomore; Dover, Delaware

♦  NCAA Champion in the shot put in both the indoor and outdoor national meets
♦  Big 12 indoor and outdoor champion in the shot put, winning both conference titles by over 3 feet
♦  Won 10 of 11 collegiate competitions in 2014
♦  Placed sixth at the USA Indoor Championships, finishing as the top collegian in the competition
♦  Won the NCAA indoor championship with the farthest throw posted by a collegian across both 2014 indoor and outdoor seasons (59'6.75")

Melvin Ejim
Men's Basketball
Senior; Toronto, Ontario, Canada

♦  2014 Big 12 Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's basketball
♦  First-Team All-American (Basketball Times) and a First-Team Academic All-American (Capital One/CoSIDA)
♦  Third in the Big 12 in scoring (17.8) and rebounding (8.4), leading the Cyclones to a Sweet Sixteen berth and the 2014 Big 12 Championship title
♦  Fourth player in Big 12 history to record 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career
♦  Set the Big 12 single-game scoring mark when he poured in 48 points vs. TCU, going 20-of-24 from the field
