Chiaka Ogbogu (Texas), Rachel Brummitt (Texas Tech) and Kylee Zumach (Kansas State) have been named Big 12 volleyball weekly award winners for matches played September 1-7.
Ogbogu claims her first career Offensive Player of the Week accolade after claiming three Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors in 2013. Brummitt earns her fourth career Defensive Player of the Week selection, claiming the honor once in 2013 and twice in 2012.
Offensive Player of the Week
Chiaka Ogbogu, Texas, So., MB, Coppell, Texas/Coppell
Ogbogu led the conference over the weekend with a .625 hitting percentage as the third-ranked Longhorns defeated No. 11 Florida on the road, 3-1. As a team, Texas hit .315 to improve to 4-0. The 2013 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Ogbogu tallied 11 kills and also contributed a career-high nine blocks.
Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Brummitt, Texas Tech, Sr., DB/L, Plano, Texas/Radford
Brummitt was named to the All-Tournament Team at the UTPA Tournament, notching 67 digs, an average of more than six per set, to lead the Big 12 over the weekend. In the tournament finale against Lamar, Brummitt notched 30 digs, marking the third time in her decorated Texas Tech career in which she has recorded 30.
Rookie of the Week
Kylee Zumach, Kansas State, Fr., OH, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo
The MVP of this past weekend’s Varney’s Invitational in Manhattan, Zumach had double-digit kills and hit over .300 in each of her three matches. She averaged 4.0 kills last week, the highest average by a Big 12 freshman and tied for fourth overall among all Big 12 players, while hitting .377 (36-7-77) over nine sets. Zumach ended the week with 39.0 points, and she was fourth among all Big 12 players in points per set with 4.33. For the season, she currently leads K-State with 57 kills and a 3.17 kills per set average.
