K-State’s Brand & Kober Garner Academic All-District Recognition
November 05, 2015

K-State juniors Katie Brand and Kersten Kober became the first K-State volleyball student-athletes to earn Academic All-District honors since 2010 as the two were both voted to the CoSIDA Academic District 7 First Team.

Brand and Kober were recognized for being two of the nation’s top student-athletes for combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

As part of being named First Team Academic All-District, Brand and Kober advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

A native of Grand Island, Nebraska, Brand has turned in her best statistical season so far on the court in addition to maintaining a 3.56 grade point average as a Life Sciences major. She is currently the only Division I player averaging 11.0 assists, 3.0 digs, 1.2 kills, 0.75 blocks and 0.15 aces while her 142.5 points are the most among Big 12 setters. The two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection is sixth on K-State’s career assists list with 3,234.

Kober, out of Southlake, Texas, has turned in a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout her time at K-State while on the court, she has amassed 977 career digs, including a team-best 351 this year. A 2014 Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, Kober has turned in back-to-back campaigns of 350 or more digs, making her just the sixth Wildcat ever to turn in multiple 350-dig seasons in a career. The libero is third in the Big 12 with 4.82 digs/set in conference-only matches this season as she is looking to become the 12th member of K-State’s 1,000-dig club.
