Wins Over Ranked Foes Help Graham, Burton To Weekly Honors

Big wins over three top 25 opponents helped Devonte’ Graham (Kansas) and Deonte Burton (Iowa State) garner the most recent Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week awards. Graham is presented player accolades for the first time this year, while Burton is named top newcomer for the third time.

Graham was a key in the Jayhawks’ 2-0 week as Kansas recorded victories over two top 10 opponents. His best performance came at No. 3 Oklahoma as he scored a career-high 27 points on 8-of-13 (.615) shooting, including 6-of-9 (.667) from 3-point range. The sophomore guard had 16 points in the final eight minutes of the contest and also turned in a stellar performance on the other end of the court as the primary defender on OU standout Buddy Hield. Graham averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 rebounds for the week while converting 57.9 percent of his shots from the field, 61.5 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.

Burton started both games as the Cyclones went 1-1 on the week and posted 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. The junior guard started with his best performance as a Cyclone, scoring 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting at Texas Tech, with three rebounds, two blocks and a steal. He was also in double figures for the third consecutive game with a 10-point performance versus No. 24 Texas, adding four rebounds, an assist and a block. Burton shot 56.0 percent from the field on the week, connecting on 14-of-25 from the floor. He is averaging 9.6 points and shooting 54.5 percent since becoming eligible in December.
