West Virginia, which has won the Big 12 regular season title in all four seasons it has been in the conference, is once again the choice to win the league in a vote of Big 12 coaches. The Mountaineers, 27-1-3 in Big 12 competition since 2012, were the unanimous choice and are ranked No. 6 nationally in the preseason NSCAA top 25.
Texas Tech welcomes seven starters and 17 letterwinners back from a squad that captured its first Big 12 postseason championship a year ago. Oklahoma was selected third - its highest preseason Big 12 soccer ranking in school history. The Sooners previous best was fourth in 2002 and 2000.
Baylor, hoping to return to NCAA play for the first time since 2012, was chosen fourth. Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas were next at fifth, sixth and seventh, all within five points of BU. TCU and Iowa State rounded out the poll in the eighth and ninth spots.
The All-Big 12 preseason team will be announced on Thursday in anticipation of the start of the Big 12 soccer campaign. All nine schools will begin action on Friday, August 19. Kansas State, which plays its inaugural season this year and begins Big 12 soccer competition in 2017, opens its campaign that day with a match at Saint Louis.
