Seedings Set for 2017 Big 12 Rowing Championship

For the third-straight season, the Big 12 Rowing Championship is set for Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia, along with affiliate members Alabama, Old Dominion and Tennessee will meet May 13-14 to battle for the conference crown.

The Big 12 Champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship at the end of the month.

This season, Texas earned the top seeds in the First Eight, Second Eight, First Four, Second Four, Third Eight and Third Four races. Oklahoma earned the second seed in the First Eight, Second Eight, Third Eight, First Four and Second Four, while Alabama picked up the two seed in the Third Four. Alabama has three No. 3 seedings, followed by Tennessee with two.

In 2016, the Longhorns picked up its sixth conference championship in the last eight years. UT is currently ranked No. 3 in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches poll and is the top seed in all six races at the championship.

All eight teams will compete in the First Eight, Second Eight, Third Eight and First Four while seven compete in Second Four. Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee and Texas will row in the Third Four exhibition. Saturday's races will serve as the preliminary heats, while Sunday is the finals.
