Five Standouts Named NCBWA All-Americans

Five league players have been named All-Americans, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association today. Texas Tech's Steven Gingery is a first team selection, followed by second team honorees Troy Montemayor of Baylor and Jared Janczak of TCU. Evan Skoug (TCU) and Braden Zarbnisky (West Virginia) earned third team nods.

The five league selections is the most since the 2012 season where seven players were honored. The league now has 121 All-Americans honored by the organization.

Gingery, named the College Baseball Foundation's National Pitcher of the Year earlier today, has collected two other first team selections from Collegiate Baseball and D1Baseball. The Big 12 Pitcher of the Year finished the season with a 10-1 record and 1.58 ERA. In 15 starts, he tossed 91.1 innings for 29 walks and 107 strikeouts.

Montemayor went 3-1 as a relief pitcher for a 2.10 ERA in 25 appearances for the Bears. He recorded 12 saves this season, good for third-best in the league.

Janczak is 9-0 for the Horned Frogs and has recorded a 1.97 ERA in 13 appearances. The redshirt sophomore is holding his opponents to a .164 batting average heading into the team's fourth straight NCAA College World Series appearance. He is also a Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-America selection.

Skoug, also a part of the CWS Horned Frog team, has a league-best 20 home runs this season. The Big 12 Co-Player of the Year 67 hits and 67 RBIs heading into Sunday's TCU-Florida matchup. He is also a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-America honoree.

Zarbnisky, also the NCBWA District II Player of the Year, hit .336 in 125 at-bats and recorded 42 hits in his sophomore campaign. On the mound, he went 6-2 for a 2.75 ERA in 23 appearances. He recorded six saves for the Mountaineers.

Twenty-one different conferences are represented on the All-America list with nine conference championship teams included. The three All-America squads are also made up of 14 conference players of the year, 12 conference pitchers of the year winners and 12 first-round draft picks in the recent MLB Draft.
