This is the first career weekly honor for Turley and Toth. Toth is the first Bear to earn a Newcomer award, which was established last season. Baylor has totaled seven weekly awards this season, including four Player of the Week honors. Weiss earns his first Player of the Week accolade after collecting two Newcomer of the Week distinctions in 2011 for a total of three career awards.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Erich Weiss, Texas, So., 3B, 6-2, 190, Brenham, Texas/Brenham
Weiss, the reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year, batted .588 (10-for-17) on the week as the Longhorns won two-of-three against Texas Tech, capping off a conference start in which UT has won 7-of-9 all on the road. He recorded multiple hits in all three games, including four hits both Friday and Saturday. In the series opener, Weiss went 2-for-5 with a run in a 7-4 win. On Friday, he went 4-for-6 with a walk, a run and a double. He capped off the weekend by going 4-for-6 with three runs, a home run and two RBI. Weiss ranks sixth in the league in hits (41) and runs scored (29). His .357 batting average is seventh-best in the Big 12.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Josh Turley, Baylor, Jr., LHP, 6-0, 190, Texarkana, Texas/Texas
Turley (4-0) held Missouri to one run over 8.1 innings to lead Baylor to a 3-1 win in the series opener on Friday - BU's 10th consecutive Big 12 victory. The southpaw faced just one batter over the minimum through the first eight innings and induced three double-play grounders. He held 14 consecutive batters without a hit before an infield single in the eighth inning, but followed that with a double play. The junior walked only one and allowed five hits in his longest outing of the season. Additionally, 63 of his 92 pitches were strikes as he improved his season ERA to 2.20, which ranks 5th in the Big 12. Baylor improved to 8-0 in games started by Turley this season - all weekend series openers.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Adam Toth, Baylor, Fr., OF, 5-10, 170, Coppell, Texas/Coppell
Last weekend, Toth hit .500 (6-for-12) with a double, two RBI, three runs, a walk and a stolen base to help Baylor to a three-game series sweep at Missouri, its fourth consecutive Big 12 sweep. The freshman went 4-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBI in the series finale on Sunday. With the Bears down 6-2 in the sixth inning, he hit an RBI double and came around to score to spark a four-run rally. Toth also drove in what would prove to be the decisive run with an RBI single to give the Bears an 8-6 lead in the seventh. The Coppell, Texas-native singled, stole a base and scored a run in middle game of series. In Friday's series opener, he delivered the Bears' first hit of the game with a two-out single in the third inning. He has reached base in 11-straight contests.
