STILLWATER, Okla. - Iowa State captured its second straight Big 12 Wrestling Championship Saturday night, tallying 72.5 points at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla. Nebraska finished second for its highest finish since 2004 with 62.5 points followed by Oklahoma State (52.5), Missouri (49.5), and Oklahoma (24).

Nebraska's Jordan Burroughs was named the 2008 Outstanding Wrestler of the Meet in a vote of the league's head coaches. ISU and NU won four individual titles each while Oklahoma State and Missouri each grabbed one.

At 125 pounds, OSU's Tyler Shinn and Paul Donahoe of Nebraska stayed even through the first two rounds until defending national champion Donohoe grabbed three quick points to go up 6-3. Donohoe closed out the match, winning his first Big 12 Championship, 7-4.

Iowa State's Nick Fanthorpe claimed the 133-pound title defeating Tyler McCormick of Missouri. Fourth-seeded McCormick advanced to the championship by defeating the No. 1 seed but was unable to continue his run as Fanthorpe jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first period. Fanthorpe extended his advantage with a two-point reversal halfway into the second period and McCormick was never able to recover.

Nick Gallick of Iowa State recorded a takedown thirty seconds into overtime to win his first Big 12 title at 141 pounds. Gallick defeated first-seeded Nathan Morgan of Oklahoma State.

In the highest scoring match of the championship, Jordan Burroughs (NU) defeated ISU's Mitch Mueller 15-6 for the 149-pound title. Burroughs, a third-place finisher last year, tallied 11 points over the final two periods for his first Big 12 crown.

Iowa State's Cyler Sanderson recorded a two-point takedown at the end of the third period to push him ahead of Missouri's Michael Chandler, 6-5, for the 157-pound title.

At 165 pounds, Nick Marable (MU) defeated Stephen Dwyer of Nebraska, 3-2, for the Big 12 title. After playing to a 2-2 tie in the first two periods, Marable picked up the winning point halfway into the final set of minutes for the victory, the Tiger's first title of the night.

Nebraska's Brandon Browne executed a two-point takedown with seven seconds left in the third period to defeat OSU's Brandon Mason, 7-6, for the 174-pound crown.

Jake Varner of Iowa State captured the 184-pound title defeating Joshua Weitzel of Oklahoma, 3-1. Varner finished second in last year's championship.

Missouri's Max Askren defended his 2007 197-pound title taking down Craig Brester of Nebraska 7-3. This marks the second straight year Askren has defeated Brester in the finals.

In the heavyweight battle, Jared Rosholt (NU) defeated David Zabriskie (ISU) 9-5, in a reversal of last year's 285-pound championship match. Zabriskie topped Rosholt in 2007, 3-2.
