TRINITY, Texas -- Oklahoma State carded a team score of 11-under par 1141 to capture the 2008 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at the par 72, 7,470-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club. It is the Cowboys' second consecutive league title, sixth Big 12 championship overall and 51st all-time conference title.

OSU led the tournament through all four rounds in the Big 12's first championship with 72 holes played across three days. The previous 11 had been contested through 54 holes. The Cowboys held a 15-stroke lead after the first day and extended it to 16 at the conclusion of the third round before recording the 20-stroke victory.

"It's always exciting to win a championship, especially on a great golf course like Whispering Pines" said OSU head coach Mike McGraw. "This place just keeps getting better and better and we are fortunate to be able to play it."

Texas finished second with a 1161 while Texas Tech placed third at 1165. No team played the final round under par as scores increased due to wind and occasional light showers.

Rickie Fowler (Oklahoma State) shot a four-under par 68 in the final 18 to earn medalist honors with a nine-under 279 score for the tournament. He birdied five holes (6, 9, 10, 14, 17) in the fourth round with only one bogey on the day.

Kevin Tway (Oklahoma State) finished second with a 283, followed by Garrett Merrell (Texas Tech) in third with a 285 and Chris Ward (Texas Tech) in fourth with a 287. The top four finishers were the only players who finished under par in the championship.
