The 2007 Big 12 Tennis Championships will be held for the third time in conference history at the Plaza Tennis Courts in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Plaza Tennis Center sits next to the Country Club Plaza, the Midwest's oldest outdoor shopping area featuring a number of unique shops, restaurants, boutiques and Spanish architecture. The Plaza Tennis Center is part of the $100 million redevelopment of the Brush Creek waterway.
The center has received local, regional and national awards since its grand opening in 1996. In 1998, the United States Tennis Association named the center a USTA National Outstanding Public Tennis Facility. In 1997, the USTA/Missouri Valley Section and USTA Heart of America District named the center "Facility of the Year."
The center includes 14 outdoor lighted courts, a pro shop and locker rooms. The exhibition court, adjacent to the clubhouse, features permanent and bleacher seating for about 300 spectators. A brick viewing patio is outside the entrance to the courts. The center also features backboards, towel, locker and racquet rental, ball machines, racquet stringing, tennis programs and instruction. The center is completely handicap accessible.
Baylor (2002-05), Texas (1997, 1999, 2006) and Texas A&M (1998, 2000-01) have combined to win all 10 of the previous men’s Big 12 postseason championships. The women’s championship features the following winners – Baylor (2006), Texas (1997-2002, ‘05), Oklahoma State (2003), and Texas A&M (2004).
