Colt McCoy (Texas), Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma) and Brian Duncan (Texas Tech) were named to the 2008 Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams®.

The 22 college football players awarded this prestigious honor were chosen by a special selection committee on the basis of community service. In order to meet the criteria, each player must be actively involved and committed to working with a charitable organization, service group or community service while maintaining good academic standing. Neither athletic ability nor on-the-field achievements are among the selection criteria.

Sophomore defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is currently serving as President of OU’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter where he has made a number of speaking appearances at area elementary schools, a facility for underprivileged children and area high schools. He has volunteered for a home building project in Lawton, Okla., with the ABC show Extreme Makeover, Meals on Wheels, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, and is an active member in several additional community events.

Colt McCoy, a senior quarterback for the Longhorns, has served as a keynote speaker at numerous charity events including the Fellowship of Christian Athletics and Texas Capitol Fellowship. He spent his 2008 Spring Break on a mission to Peru where he volunteered at a weeklong Christian Sports camp that hosted less fortunate kids in the midst of Rainforests on the Amazon. He is a regular volunteer at the Austin Children’s Hospital and with the Wonders and Worries program, while also serving as a phone operator with the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon.

Sophomore Duncan is an active member within the Texas Tech and Lubbock community, serving as the Vice President on Tech’s Student Athlete Advisory Commitee. He has volunteered at numerous hospitals, retirement homes, elementary schools and churches as a guest speaker, coach and particpant. He has also helped organize numerous events including the Red Raider Play Day, and conducts chapel sessions for the Red Raider football team. He is a participant in the Boys and Girls Club, and was selected to participate in TTU’s Diversity Leadership Conference.

This is the 17th consecutive season the Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams® have been selected, and the first that Allstate has partnered with the AFCA to present the awards.
