Higgins, Webster, Pacheco Named Big 12 Volleyball Players, Rookie of the Week

Caitlin Higgins (Oklahoma) and Callie Webster (Colorado) have earned the Big 12 Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, while Soriana Pacheco (Kansas State) has been selected as the Rookie of the Week for the matches of Oct. 27-Nov. 2.   Webster is honored for the second time in her career.

Higgins led OU to a 2-0 record last week, including an upset at No. 3 Texas and a victory at home against Baylor.  She posted a team-high 18 kills and 12 digs, while compiling a .311 hitting percentage in Austin on Wednesday.  The Amarillo, Texas rookie also had three service aces and scored 21.5 points overall in the match.  Higgins then recorded 20 digs and 13 kills along with a block solo and two block assists on Sunday versus the Bears.  On the week, she paced the Sooners in kills (31) and was second in digs (32) in addition to tallying 38.5 points, five service aces and four blocks.

Webster helped CU’s defense hold second-ranked Nebraska to a season-low .153 hitting percentage on last Wednesday.  She had 16 digs, tying for the match-high, in the 3-1 victory over the previously unbeaten Huskers.  For the week, she averaged 4.00 digs against Nebraska, which leads the Big 12 in overall kills per set.   The Buffs are just the second squad to defeat NU more than once in the last five seasons.

Pacheco averaged 10.89 assists to guide the Wildcats to victories over Texas A&M and Kansas. The Western Nebraska transfer had 47 assists and three kills on six attempts along with nine digs and two aces in the five-set win over the Aggies.  In the Sunflower Showdown, Pacheco then recorded 51 assists to tally her third match this season with at least 50 assists.  She also contributed seven digs and three service aces.  Pacheco was instrumental in Kansas State finishing the week second in hitting percentage (.299) and assists (13.00).
