2010-11 Bowl Agreements
Release: 07/01/2009
Entering its 13th season, the Bowl Championship Series was established to determine a champion for college football while maintaining and enhancing the bowl system which has provided significant support to college football for nearly a century. The BCS is a showcase for the sport, matching the premier teams in top bowl games. The Big 12 Conference is a key component in the championship agreement.

The Big 12 had a nation-leading seventh team play in the BCS National Championship Game in 2009. From 2000-2005, Big 12 squads played in the title game five times during the six-year span.

The BCS consists of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl. In addition to the Big 12, the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Pacific-10 and Southeastern Conferences also have automatic berths for their champions into one of the four contests. Beginning with the 2006 season, each bowl hosts two games once every four years - its traditional game plus a National Championship contest approximately one week after the New Year.

This season the national championship game will be played in Glendale, Ariz. on January 10. The current BCS television contract will expire after the 2009 season (2010 games). ESPN has been awarded television rights under a new four-year agreement, beginning with the 2010 season (2011 games).
