Kansas 35, Southern Miss 28
The 19th-ranked Jayhawks (4-0) came up with some big defensive stops and Todd Reesing threw for three touchdowns as Kansas held off Southern Miss (3-1), ending the Golden Eagles' eight-game winning streak. Reesing, avoiding a steady pass rush, compelted 30-of-41 passes. His first touchdown pass went to Kerry Meier and his last TD pass also went to Meier and gave Kansas the 35-28 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Kansas State 49, Tennessee Tech 7
An expected victory over a Division I-AA team turned out to be a record-setting day for the Wildcats' Brandon Banks. He equaled an NCAA record by returning two kickoffs for touchdowns as Kansas State (2-2) had its easiest game of the season. After Tennessee Tech (1-2) scored its only touchdown to tie the score at 7-all, Banks returned the kickoff 93 yards for a TD. He took the second-half kickoff 92 yards.

Texas 64, UTEP 7
The second-ranked Longhorns (4-0) made sure they didn't start slow against the Miners. Texas rolled to a 47-7 halftime lead and stuffed UTEP's offense, allowing only 53 yards of total offense and seven first downs. Colt McCoy, who had an interception returned for UTEP's only touchdown, completed 28-of-35 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. Dan Buckner had TD receptions of 36 and 15 yards for the Longhorns.

Baylor 68, Northwestern State 13
The Bears allowed the Division I-AA Demons to jump to a 7-0 lead then exploded for 68 points over the game's last 48 minutes. Baylor (2-1) scored its first TD when 3:03 remaining in the first quarter. Robert Griffin, who hurt his right knee on Baylor's first drive and didn't play in the second half, threw for three touchdowns and redshirt freshman Jared Salubi gained 131 yards on seven carries. The Bears returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Nebraska 55, Louisiana-Lafayette 0
The 24th-ranked Cornhuskers celebrated homecoming and the 300th consecutive sellout with a dominating destruction of the Ragin' Cajuns (2-2). Running back Roy Helu Jr. scored three rushing touchdowns and Nebraska's last two touchdowns came from freshmen Rex Burkhead and Cody Green. Burkhead took a screen pass from Green for a 24-yard touchdown and Green scored on a 24-yard run.

Iowa State 31, Army 10
The Cyclones (3-1) limited the Cadets to 186 yards rushing and Alexander Robinson scored three touchdowns. Robinson had a 68-yard rushing touchdown and caught 32-yard and 2-yard scoring passes from Austen Arnaud. Army (2-2) pulled to within 17-10 just before halftime but the Cadets were scoreless in the second half.

Oklahoma State 56, Grambling State 6
The 16th-ranked Cowboys (3-1) had little trouble putting away the Division I-AA Tigers. Despite missing starting running back Kendall Hunter and wide receiver Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State had 321 yards rushing and 587 total yards. Freshman running back Jeremy Smith had 160 yards rushing on 15 carries and Keith Toston had three rushing TDs.

Texas A&M 56, UAB 19
The Aggies (3-0), who came into the game leading the nation in total offense (589 yards per game), racked up 566 total yards in rolling past the Blazers (1-3). Quarterback Jerrod Johnson completed 23 of 29 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns. He also gained 61 yards on 14 attempts and scorded three TDs.

Houston 29, Texas Tech 28
Cougars quarterback Case Keenum drove No. 23 Houston (3-0) 95 yards in 16 plays and scored on a 4-yard run to edge the Red Raiders (2-2). Texas Tech led 21-10 late in the first half and had a 28-20 advantage with 4:19 remaining in the third quarter but couldn't hold on. Tech quarterback Taylor Potts was 30 of 44 for 321 yards - his first game under 400 yards passing this season. Keenum finished 38-of-58 for 453 yards.
