BIG 12 CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Landry Jones, Oklahoma, QB, Fr, Artesia, N.M.
Landry Jones completed 26-of-37 passes for 294 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Oklahoma’s 42-30 win over Kansas State. KSU closed Oklahoma’s lead to five points twice in the fourth quarter and both times Jones directed scoring drives on OU’s ensuing possession to extend the advantage, completing 14 consecutive passes on those drives (67 and 68 yards). Kansas State entered the contest averaging 1.4 interceptions per game but was unable to pick off Jones.
Baron Batch, Texas Tech, RB, Jr, Midland, Texas
Baron Batch scored four touchdowns on the ground, including three in the fourth quarter as the Red Raiders scored 28 points in the final period to defeat Kansas 42-21. Batch rushed for 123 yards on 17 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per rush. The 100-yard game was his second of the season. He scored on runs of 2, 1, 17 and 11 yards while also catching five passes.
Batch finished the game with 136 all-purpose yards.
BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jared Crick, Nebraska, DT, So, Cozad, Neb.
Jared Crick totaled 13 tackles with 10 unassisted, including five sacks and two others for loss in Nebraska’s 20-10 win at Iowa State. He also broke up a pass and recovered a fumble. The sophomore defensive tackle’s five sacks set a Nebraska school record, bettering four sacks on five previous occasions. The sack total is also the most by any player in the nation this season. Crick’s seven tackles for loss tied a Nebraska school record, set 24 years ago by All-American Jim Skow vs. Missouri. His 13 total tackles are the most by a Nebraska player this season. Crick leads the team with 8.5 sacks and has 13 tackles for loss to tie Ndamukong Suh for the team lead. His 49 total tackles also tied for team lead with Suh.
BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brandon Banks, Kansas State, WR/KR, Sr, Garner, N.C.
Brandon Banks recorded his Big 12-record fourth kickoff return for a touchdown at No. 22 Oklahoma. The 98-yard return in the fourth quarter pulled the Cats to within 35-30 of the Sooners. Banks’ four kick returns for scores this season are one shy of the NCAA single-season record of five and his five career TD’s are one shy of the NCAA career record of six, set by three individuals. Banks had 351 all-purpose yards (156 receiving and 195 kick return) last Saturday, which tied a school record and tied for fifth in Big 12 history. The 351 all-purpose yards were also the most in the Big 12 and the nation this season, bettering Derrick Locke (Kentucky) by 41 yards (310 vs. Louisville). Currently, Banks leads the Big 12 in kick return yards (953), kick return average (31.8) and kick return TDs (4), and his current career kick return average of 30.2 yards is first in K-State history and sixth in Big 12 history.
