Emily Cressy (Kansas), Bri Young (Texas A&M) and Shelby Williamson (Kansas) were named the Big 12 Soccer Players of the Week for games played from Oct. 29-30, the conference office announced. Cressy earned the award for the third time in her career and Young received the accolade for the second time this season. Williamson was recognized for the first time.
Offensive Player of the Week Emily Cressy, Kansas, F, So., Ventura, Calif. Cressy netted two goals, including the game winner, to score four points in Kansas’ 3-2 victory over No. 20 Missouri. Her first goal tied the game at 1-1. The sophomore forward recorded her first multi-goal game of the season and her fifth game-winner. Cressy leads the Jayhawks in goals (11) and points (25), which both rank fourth in the conference. Her 11 goals are the most by a Kansas player since 2004.
Defensive Player of the Week Bri Young, Texas A&M, D, So., Castle Pines North, Colo. Young led the Texas A&M defense as they held Texas scoreless in the Aggies’ 4-0 victory last Friday. She helped limit the Longhorns to just two shots on goal and a corner kick. In addition, Young also contributed offensively by tallying three points with a goal and an assist. She ranks third on the team in goals (five) and points (15), while coming in second with assists (five).
Newcomer of the Week Shelby Williamson, Kansas, MF, F., Colorado Springs, Colo. Williamson played all 90 minutes of action and scored a goal for two points in Kansas’ 3-2 win over regular season champion Missouri. Her goal broke a 1-1 tie, giving the Jayhawks their first lead in the match. The freshman midfielder has posted seven goals on the season along with two assists for sixteen points. Williamson ranks second in the Big 12 in goals amongst freshmen.
