John Roberson (Texas Tech) and Xavier Henry (Kansas) have been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of November 30 - December 6 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first career honor in each category for both players.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK John Roberson, Texas Tech, G, Jr., 5-11, 165, Plano, Texas/Plano Roberson sparked Texas Tech in its 99-92 overtime victory over No. 10 Washington on Thursday, as the Red Raiders extended their record to 8-0 for the first time since the 1929-30 season. The junior guard finished with 25 points, the 13th 20-point outing of his career. He connected on 6-of-10 field goals, while hitting a career-best 13-of-13 from the free throw line. He also had two rebounds, seven assists and two steals in a career-high 43 minutes. Roberson has five or more assists in six of his last seven outings, moving into seventh on the all-time Tech chart with 354. Over the last two seasons, he has dished out seven or more assists 18 times. This is his third Big 12 weekly honor overall, as he was also named top rookie twice during the 2007-08 campaign.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Xavier Henry, Kansas, G, Fr., 6-6, 220, Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City Henry contributed two more double-figure scoring efforts as Kansas recorded wins over Alcorn State (98-31) and at UCLA (73-61). The freshman guard averaged 17.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the floor. He started the week with an 18-point effort versus Alcorn State, then followed with 16 points against the Bruins. In two games, he was 9-of-17 (.529) from 3-point range and 3-of-4 (.750) from the free throw line. He also had four steals and two blocked shots. Henry has scored in double digits in every outing in 2009-10 and leads all Big 12 freshmen in scoring with 16.9 points per game.
