Marquise Goodwin (Texas) and Demetrius Pinder (Texas A&M) were selected as Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Male Athletes of the Week. Porscha Lucas (Texas A&M) was chosen as the Female Athlete of the Week for Jan. 19. This marks the first career awards for all three student-athletes.
Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Male Athletes of the Week Marquise Goodwin, Texas, Fr., Garland, Texas/Rowlett In his first collegiate meet, Goodwin notched two provisional qualifying times and two titles at the Arkansas Dual meet. The freshman clocked a 6.69 in the 60-meters and posted a mark of 7.72 meters (25-4 ft.) in the long jump. Both marks currently rank third in the nation.
Demetrius Pinder, Texas A&M, Jr., Freeport, Bahamas/Essex County Junior College Pinder clinched a NCAA automatic qualifier in the 400-meters with a 2010 world and collegiate leading time of 46.01. The mark was also a personal indoor best, lowering his previous time of 47.02. The junior also broke the Texas A&M Invitational meet record of 46.17. Pinder now ranks second on the Aggies’ all-time indoor list.
Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week Porscha Lucas, Texas A&M, Sr., Plano, Texas/Plano Lucas cruised to a 23.06 finish to win the 200 meters, establishing the world and collegiate leading time for 2010. Her time also earned a NCAA automatic qualifying mark and set a Texas A&M Invitational meet record. Lucas recorded the 10th-fastest performance on the Aggie all-time list, she owns six of those 10 marks.
