Texas A&M Big 12 Athlete of the Year Nominees

Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day through July 23. Fans will then be able to vote for their male and female choices from July 23-28. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award. Today's featured candidates are Texas A&M's Porscha Lucas and Curtis Mitchell.

Male Athlete of the Year Candidate
Curtis Mitchell; Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field
Junior; Daytona Beach, Fla.


Accomplishments
- Completed an undefeated 200-meter indoor track and field season breaking a 22-year-old school record in winning the NCAA national title in 20.38
- Won the Big 12 indoors and outdoors 200-meter titles
- Finished second at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, his first loss in 16 consecutive races including prelims and finals
- Garnered six All-America citations (two indoor and four outdoor)
- Ran a leg on the NCAA Champion 4X400 relay teams in both indoor and outdoor meets, setting school records in both events.

Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Porscha Lucas; Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field
Senior; Plano, Texas


Accomplishments
- Won the outdoor 200-meter NCAA title for the second straight season, becoming the first female to win consecutive national titles in this event since 1985-86
- Ran the second leg of the A&M 4X100 relay that won a fourth straight NCAA title, becoming the first sprinter in NCAA Championship history to be a part of four consecutive relay
- Won the Big 12 Indoor 200 meter title for the third straight year and won the Big 12 Outdoor 200 meter crown for the second straight year
- Earned 19 career All-America honors, the most decorated male or female athlete in Texas A&M history
- Led the Aggies in scoring with 20.5 points at the 2010 NCAA Championships
