Big 12 Conference commissioner Dan Beebe announced that he has engaged the services of former NCAA executive vice president, Tom Jernstedt. Jernstedt will be consulted on a variety of matters as the Conference prepares for significant media negotiations and its future as a 10-member league.
"Tom has been an outstanding contributor to intercollegiate athletics," said Beebe, "and has spent the last 38 years of his career with the NCAA. I am excited to tap into his experience as we navigate through these exciting times for the Big 12 Conference."
At the NCAA, Jernstedt supervised many of the Association's operations and was primarily responsible for the tremendous growth of the men's and women's basketball championships. Under his direction, NCAA championships across all three divisions increased from 24 to 88. He was intimately involved with the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, including the most comprehensive and lucrative media agreements in college sports. Jernstedt was also instrumental in the integration of women's sports into the NCAA and the development of women's championships.
Jernstedt will be inducted into the National College Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend in Kansas City, and will receive the Legacy Award from the National Football Foundation in early December.
