Adams, Vann & Pelger Receive Final Weekly Volleyball Honors

Rachael Adams (Texas), Caitlyn Vann (Missouri) and Kaitlynn Pelger (Kansas State) have earned the final Big 12 volleyball weekly awards of the 2010 season. Adams and Vann are the offensive and defensive players of the week, while Pelger is the top rookie for the matches of Nov. 22-28, the Conference office announced. It marks Vann's eighth honor, including five of the last seven defensive accolades this season.  Adams is being recognized for the third time.

Adams averaged 4.50 points and 4.00 kills in UT's victories over Texas A&M and at No. 16 Iowa State.  She hit at a .571 clip in those seven sets, while contributing 0.86 blocks to the Longhorns' defensive attack.  In a sweep of TAMU,  Adams connected on 15 kills on 19 swings and hit .737.  She added three digs and two blocks.  The Cincinnati, Ohio-native committed her lone attack error at the 23-22 mark in the final set.  At ISU, the junior middle registered 13 kills and a .435 attack percentage. Defensively, Adams chipped in four blocks and two digs.

Vann led the Big 12 in digs on the week with 7.60 per set. Her 38-dig performance in Missouri's five-set loss to Oklahoma is the second-best outing by a Tiger in a single match since 1985, but a school-record during the 25-point rally scoring era. Vann recorded .974 (38-of-39) reception percentage in the match. The Muncie, Ind.-senior ended the regular season as the Big 12's digs leader in overall (5.30) and conference (5.51) matches.


Kaitlynn Pelger, Kansas State, MB, Fr., Olathe, Kan./Olathe South
At Kansas on Wednesday, Pelger produced a career-high 20 kills in a 3-2 win.  She also had six digs and three block assists along with a .326 hitting percentage.  The Olathe, Kan.-native then turned in a double-double outing (18 kills and 11 digs), while maintaining a .469 attack clip against Colorado.  In addition, Pelger recorded five blocks, four assists and a pair of service aces.  She averaged 4.65 points, 3.80 kills and 1.70 digs along with a .387 hitting percentage on the week.
