McGruder, Heslip Earn Men's Basketball Weekly Accolades

Junior guard Rodney McGruder (Kansas State) and sophomore guard Brady Heslip (Baylor) have been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for games of Dec. 19-25 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference. It is the first career weekly honor for both student-athletes.

PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

McGruder averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per game as the Wildcats won the Diamond Head Classic. The junior guard scored in double figures in two of three outings, including a career-best 28 points in the title game versus Long Beach State. In that contest, he connected on 10-of-11 (.909) shots from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. It marked his seventh 20-point effort of the season. On the week, McGruder shot 64 percent (16-of-25) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from beyond the arc. He also converted 9-of-11 (.818) from the free-throw line with one block and two steals en route to Tournament MVP honors. McGruder leads K-State in scoring with 12.4 points per game.

PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brady Heslip, Baylor, So., G, Burlington, Ontario/New Hampton Prep [N.H.]
Heslip averaged 14.0 points with a 70 percent field goal percentage to lead Baylor to three wins, a Las Vegas Classic championship and tie for the best start (12-0) in program history. The sophomore guard made 14-of-20 shots during the week, including 11-of-16 (.688) from 3-point range. His top performance came versus future Big 12-opponent West Virginia, as he recorded a career-high 19 points with five 3-pointers to lead the Bears to an 83-81 overtime victory. He made all three of his free throw attempts for the week while adding four assists and four steals. Heslip had converted at least one triple in every outing this year and is shooting 48.7 percent from beyond the arc, while leading the Big 12 in 3-point field goals per game (3.1).
