Missouri and Oklahoma both advanced on the first day of the 2012 Big 12 Tennis Championships at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The eighth-seeded Tigers tallied a 4-2 victory over ninth-seeded Iowa State, while No. 7 seed OU swept 10th-seeded Kansas, 4-0.

MU will open Friday's action with a match against top-seeded Texas Tech in the first of four women's quarterfinals on the day. The men's championship also kicks off Friday at 9 a.m. with two first round matches on the schedule.

Missouri (11-11), ranked 49th nationally, claimed the doubles point with an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles spot from the 83rd-ranked tandem of Jamie Mera and Nina Pantic and then an 8-6 victory by Ashleigh Chiaf and Alex Clark at the No. 3 position.

In singles play, Clark boosted the Tigers to a 2-0 lead by downing Meghan Cassens, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4. The teams would then trade points over the next three matches with ISU claiming wins at the No. 6 and 5 positions and Missouri triumphing at No. 2. However, MU's top player, Pantic, would clinch the match for the Tigers only moments later as she posted a 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 comeback victory over Maria Macedo. Missouri will look to even the season series in its next match against No. 21Texas Tech, after the Lady Raiders won the regular season meeting, 6-1. Iowa State falls to 4-19 on the year.

Oklahoma (11-12) produced the most complete performance of the day in its victory over Kansas. The Sooners took doubles matches one and two to secure that point, before opening singles play on a tear. OU won all six first sets in individual action, allowing KU to tally only 11 games across all matches. Oklahoma turned three of those first-set victories into straight-set wins at the No. 1, 3 and 6 positions to claim the shutout. Oklahoma will now face No. 2 seed Baylor at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Bears slipped past the Sooners, 4-3, in their first meeting of the year on March 30 in Waco. Kansas drops to 9-13 on the season.
