Eight Big 12 teams recorded a victory during the opening weekend of the season. Four league squads, Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, went undefeated in the first two contests of the 2012 campaign.

Baylor, Iowa State and Oklahoma State all allowed zero goals in two games played. ISU's goalie Maddie Jobe tallied six saves, BU's Michelle Kloss had two and OSU's Adrianna Franch had three. In total, Big 12 teams had seven shutouts in 17 games.

BU racked up the most goals in the Conference with six, and the most points with 17. The Bears netted five goals in their home-opener against Northwestern State.

The Big 12 has at least one ranked team (Oklahoma State) in every poll. The Cowgirls peak at No. 4 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire poll and Baylor is ranked at No. 24 in the same poll. Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and West Virginia are each receiving votes in at least on poll.

In the preseason coaches' poll, Oklahoma State took the top spot for the second straight year with four first place votes. Newcomer West Virginia was second with two first-place votes. Baylor, Kansas and Texas Tech are separated by only 10 points in spots three through six, with each receiving one first-place vote.

Oklahoma State and West Virginia each landed four selections to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. OSU All-American goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and defender Carson Michelowski earned All-Big 12 First Team recognition last season. Texas Tech's Jaelene Hinkle, Texas' Hannah Higgins and OSU's Megan Marchesano all garnered All-Big 12 Second Team honors for the 2012 campaign and Hinkle was also named to the All-Newcomer Team.
